New limits, new solutions

I’ve been really bad with communicating what I’m doing with only posting short sarcastic titles and descriptions spread throughout random unorganized tweets and assuming people will get it, which is a bad strategy that leads to even myself not fully knowing what I’m doing, so I decided to organize my thoughts and write this description of my latest project

The concept of this collection came to me when I was extremely exhausted and dealing with side effects of the meds I take to deal with some chronic issues that come with having SMA

it was a simple idea that popped up in my head

“wouldn’t it be fun if I made a library of cute crudely made models with the most horrible wireframes and shapes”

it was a fleeting thought that i quickly dismissed because i wasn’t in the mood to create anything while being that exhausted, but after waking up the next day I felt much better physically and decided to actually tackle that idea

Some context for “crudely made models with horrible wireframes”

Basically a good wireframe and topology can lead to better looking and more useful models

The problem with creating good topology is the required time and tedious effort that goes into it, you can’t have fun creating shapes and objects without keeping the topology in mind the entire time

There is other strategies to have fun modeling without worrying about topology but I’m trying to do a quick explanation for people who don’t do 3d so if you are experienced in this area please ignore my gross simplification, back to the collection 👇

The moment i started I noticed I'm having so much fun creating dumb shapes and ideas to make the wireframe be as horrible as possible, since the goal is creating cute yet badly made 3d models, the stress and crushing high expectations were gone, it was pure fun which is something I didn't have for a while

Another extremely important thing I noticed while creating this collection was my energy was sustained throughout and I didn't feel tired or burnt out after every model, I've attempted creating different collections before but I always had to stop short due to exhaustion, SMA is a progressive disease so I'm always readjusting my expectations of myself and energy and what I'm capable of, so I was really happy finding a new style i can do consistently and have fun without being in pain after

I thought making yet another collection of videos would be quite boring, so all the objects in this collection are 3D glTF files, you can spin them around and play with them in any world that accepts importing glTF models, even on mobile

The collection started with simple shapes but as I went further i started getting more interesting ideas for what I can do within the limits of glTF

Everyday since i created this collection I’ve been waking up excited with new ideas to try, it really re-energized my creativity

I didn’t have to worry about details, topology, materials, rendering, just simple fun ideas to make that still look cool as a glTF, remember you can import those to any world that supports glTF so have fun riding this blocky bike around, you can explore the collection here, click on the thumbnails to load the 3d models

P.S you can create your own models inspired by this style under the hashtag #3d123 on twitter I’d love to see them
